Project Objectives :
To conduct an Asia-wide cross-regional comparison on interlanguage pragmatic learning strategy (IPLS) repertoires of learners of Chinese as a second/foreign language (CSL/CFL) via quantitative and qualitative analyses.
To examine CSL/CFL learners’ comprehension and production performance in Chinese pragmatic knowledge in different learning contexts via rigorous real-time paradigms.
To explore the contribution of different categories of IPLS to CSL/CFL pragmatic development via a mixed-method longitudinal design, including statistical analyses and metapragmatic awareness surveys/interviews.
To generate recommendations for teaching practitioners, school-stakeholders, and policy makers regarding how to enhance students’ sociocultural communication competence via optimizing learners’ IPLS.
