Project Objectives :
To identify salient language problems in Hong Kong undergraduates’ academic essays written in English.
To develop, and validate a discrete-point diagnostic test focusing on those salient language problems in students’ academic writing.
To develop and validate a fine-grained diagnostic checklist focusing on the key criteria of academic writing.
To investigate the relationships between the score profiles generated via the above two approaches to diagnose language problems in academic writing.
To identify and verify key linguistic indicators distinguishing major language skill patterns.
